Shadow and Bone has had quite the resurgence with the release of the Netflix series. I love the whole aesthetic and hope you do too.

Book Review

Shadow and Bone

3.8/5

Full disclosure: this is the only Grishaverse book I’ve read so far.  I went in blind, knowing nothing but this was YA and fantasy, two of my least favorite genres. I was immediately hooked. Oh my gosh, it really is good! I was expecting shallow and unbelievable but instead I got intense depth. S&B is fast paced and well written. Our main character, Alina, is relatable. I loved her character growth throughout the story. Bardugo created an intriguing mix of romance, evil villains and a hero with great character arc.

My only wish, as with all YA fiction that I read, is that there could have been a smidge more rated R content but I don’t count that against the story- it’s just personal preference.

The film was outstanding. It made me want to read the rest of the series to know more about Kaz, Inej and Jasper. But even knowing next to nothing, the first season was rich and thrilling and a fantastical story that I couldn’t get enough of.

Audiobook Review Fortgang has incredible talent. I will be looking for more books narrated by her. She was a great fit for Alina.

You can buy Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo here from Amazon or you can also choose to support local bookstores by purchasing it from Bookshop.
