I am a hot tea drinker so the idea of a comforting mug of hot wine? umm, yes please. The mix of spices and fruits will make your house so cozy and sets a great atmosphere for a party.
This hot wine can also be quickly made on the stove; just follow all the instructions but simmer for 20-30 in a large pot. You don’t want to boil the liquid or the alcohol will evaporate.
- slow cooker
- 750 ml white wine
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1/3 cup orange juice
- 3 tbsp honey
- 1 lemon sliced
- 2 oranges
- 6 cinnamon sticks
- 4 star anise
- 16 whole cloves
- 2 inches ginger root peeled
- Add wine, water, sugar, honey and juice to the pot. Mix until the sugar dissolves.
- Stud the oranges with cloves. Slice oranges in half.
- Add the rest of the ingredients to the pot. Slow cook for 2 hours. Enjoy!!
Did you know that Greeks invented mulled wine in the 2nd century? Any leftover wine that didn’t make it to the table from harvest they would dump spices in it and warm it up.
