Equipment

  • food processor

Ingredients

  • 2 cups blackberries washed
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice fresh
  • pinch salt

Instructions

  • Place the berries in a food processor and blend until smooth.
  • For seedless jam: place a fine mesh strainer over a medium sauce pan. Pour the blended berries into the strainer and push them around with a spatula. The sauce will run through the strainer leaving the seeds behind. Do this until as much sauce is strained as possible.
  • Add sugar, lemon juice and salt to the sauce pan with the berry sauce. Stir frequently on low heat until the jam thickens, about 18-22 minutes.
  • Cool and enjoy!

Do yourself a favor and make Ma’s Fluffy Biscuits to go with this jam.

The feelings behind this simple blackberry jam go deep in the story. The jam is a symbol of small Kya’s large gratitude for Jumpin and Mabel.
