Book Review

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

“On average, women report having eight close friends. Studies have found that, when under stress, women tend to seek out these female friends.” But what do you do when the people you share your life with are using you for foul purposes? Dark undertones, twisted plots, beautiful and manipulative villains.

You Are Not Alone is my first book by Hendricks and Pekkanen but it won’t be my last! This dynamic duo was made to write thrillers together.  I absolutely loved this book!!  Thrilling from the start, it is packed with Nerdy Facts and yummy food. You Are Not Alone is my favorite read of the year so far!

Quiet and analytical Shay witnesses a suicidal woman jump into the path of an oncoming subway train.  Understandably, she develops a phobia of all things subway and loses her job, her home and the beginnings of her sanity. Shay also can’t stop obsessing over Amanda, the woman who jumped. As her life comes crashing down, she attends Amanda’s memorial only to be enfolded into the dead woman’s group of friends. But with friends like these who needs enemies?

I did not want to stop listening to this book. I took extra laps around the neighborhood and folded laundry into time sucking perfect piles. I loved the mystery and fitting pieces of this murderous puzzle together.  At 91% of the book, I still had no idea how this was going to end, try as I might. At this point, I was worried that the ending was going to be a rush job. I hate endings that are stilted and full of loose ends but Hendricks and Pekkanen tied them into a sweet, satisfying bow. Solid 4.5 star read!

Audiobook Review

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Narration fit Shay’s lyrical, innocent, often anxious voice vs listening to one of my favorite episodes of Snapped. she managed to balance and emote for a variety of different characters. .

Food Review

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

The book is filled to the gills with food. From breakfast smoothies to jalapeño margarita, the food choices were plenty.

Hi friends!! I’m Jenni, The Nerdy Gourmet. I love books and I love food. Combining the two with a splash of travel has become my passion. I am a self taught cook/baker and I believe that everyone can cook from scratch! I’m here with recipes and Nerdy Tips to help along the way.
I review books, mostly ‘read’ via audio, and I create recipes inspired by the story lines. Sometimes if I am deeply moved by a story, I will travel and try my best to experience the book- and bring you along via my blog! I provide all the photographs and content for the Nerdy Gourmet (unless otherwise noted).
