Lisey’s Story Book Review ~ A Love Story a la Stephen King

Romantic but gothic, King’s most personal novel explores a writer’s widow and her grief.

Lisey's Story

3.6/5

Lisey’s Story was created with the rich, layered storytelling that is King. It is an intimate and touching look into a widow’s grief. Lisey’s deceased husband was a famous horror writer with a strange and bloody past. As Lisey faces life without her lover, she discovers an otherworldly scavenger hunt that Scott had set up before his death.

The path of King’s mind has the power to make one wonder at other worlds and mystical parallel universes. It’s thought provoking enough to make one uncomfortable which is why I am terrified of clowns and squirm at the thought of actually reading a King book. I know I will become enveloped in the worlds he creates and Lisey’s Story was no different.

King has stated that this book was his favorite. Abundantly filled with inside words, jokes and stories, I found it hard to follow at times. It almost felt like I was learning a new language. But by the end I felt included, on the inside of this private joke, enfolded into the story. Lisey’s Story.

Audiobook Review Winningham was so talented! She echoes the clear, concise and emotional feel of this book. She had great inflection and made reading this book better.

Film Review I struggled to follow along with the Apple+ series. It hit the most obvious notes by encapsulating the big picture but I felt the undertones of grief and love were not strong enough.

You can buy Lisey’s Story here from Amazon or you can also choose to support local bookstores by purchasing it from Bookshop although I highly recommend listening to this book! You can buy the audio version at Libro.fm here.
