I am a nerd.
Share on facebook Share on twitter Share on linkedin Share on pinterest Share on email Share on google I am a nerd. I’ve always been a nerd. I think I realized I was a nerd in middle school. My gawky glasses were getting annually thicker since second grade. This was the year when I started reading everything I could get my hands on from Encyclopedia Brown to Little House on the Prairie. I accepted being a nerd when I was 29. I dated a guy who said I was so curious and that being intelligent and being a nerd was super attractive. He’s long gone but I like to think that…

Evidence of the Affair Chocolate Mousse
Light but oh so rich, this mousse will make you cheat…….on your diet. Chocolate mousse has to be one of my favorite desserts. Ever since my 8th grade French teacher, Mrs. Moran, made us mousse au chocolat in class, I have been in love with this decadent dessert. I am however not a mousse purist. I cannot mentally make myself eat raw eggs so in my version the eggs are tempered. Rich and creamy, the key to this mousse is to take it out of the refrigerator 30 minutes before eating. I know the original reason we took up a correspondence was due to you seeking out the letters from…

Evidence of the Affair Book Review ~ An Engaging Exchange
Taylor Jenkins Reid could write an obituary and I would read it. I found this short story to be a sweet and realistic glimpse into troubled relationships. Taylor Jenkins Reid General Fiction California, 1970s Julia Whelan, George Newbern, James Daniels, Dara Rosenberg Book Review Evidence of the Affair 4.1/5 What would you do if you found a letter from your husband’s mistress? Set in the 1970s, this entire short story is made up of letters, mostly between Carrie and David whose spouses are having an affair. What this novella lacks in length it makes up for in originality and realism. Taylor Jenkins Reid could write an obituary and I…

Brooklyn Lox and Cream Cheese Bagel Balls
These Bagel Balls are so fun! They’re a NYC deli stop in a bite. Smokey lox, cream cheese and briny capers surrounded by chewy everything bagels create a classic taste in a fun new way. These are also great for on the go eating in the car. My bagel sandwich comes up for pickup. I take the white paper bag, thank the woman and make my way back down toward the water. Brooklyn Bridge Park is less a park and more a stretch of grass. The benches are full, and I pop down on a rock, right by the water’s edge. I open up my sandwich and take a bite.…

Authentic Pesto Pasta with Parmesan
You can make this pesto pasta as easy as you want. Buy the pasta and the pesto. Boil the pasta, drain and smother with pesto. Easy 10 minute dinner. No judgement. I do it the easy way often. But….. in the Gourmet version there’s a little more time involved but your tastebuds will dance a tarantella. (For the curious, that’s an Italian folk dance with lots of spinning and tambourines.) Basically, it’s worth the extra work those times you can afford it. Do you want red sauce or pesto?” he asks from the kitchen. “Aaron?” I try. He smiles. “Yes?” “Pesto,” I say. I walk toward the kitchen. It’s 2025,…

Verity Taco Bites
These taco bites are perfect for any party- even a party of one! The wonton shells add the perfect crunch and each person can add whatever toppings they desire (if you choose to share!). I love this easy, fun dinner! Sometimes I mix quinoa into the beef to lighten things up a bit. The possibilities are endless! “I made tacos.” I smile at him. “Is it time to eat already?” He laughs. “It’s after ten. It was time to eat three hours ago.” I look at the clock on the computer. How did I lose track of time? I guess that happens when you’re reading about a psychotic woman abusing…

Where the Crawdads Sing ~ A Book Journey
Have you ever read a book so intense that you wanted more? Something about Crawdads sparked this need inside of me to explore for myself. It was just so beautifully written that I wanted more of Kya and the salt marsh. Sometimes books just aren’t enough for this nerdy girl. I had to see what Delia Owens so vividly wrote about. I packed my bags and went on my first Nerdy Gourmet adventure. Hence, book inspired travel and food became my passion. Kya’s Blackberry Jam
She twisted the cloth bag with the jam so that it was wrung tight and knotted against the jars. As the boys drew even with the thicket, she swung the heavy bag and whacked the closest one hard across the back of his head. Ma’s Fluffy Southern Biscuits
Kya insisted on keeping the old wood-stove, firewood piled next to it, because it heated the shack, but mostly because it had baked a thousand biscuits from her mother’s heart. Delia Owens, Where the Crawdads Sing Tweet Share on facebook Share on twitter Share on linkedin Share on pinterest Share on email Share on google These southern biscuits are rich and fluffy, just like Kya’s ma used to make. Owens mentions biscuits so often throughout Crawdads that I had to indulge. Now, they are a staple around here on the weekends with our eggs and bacon. I hope you enjoy- they come from my heart! Gluten Free Chicken Piccata with Zoodles
I must admit, I was very skeptical of any noodle shaped vegetables replacing my pasta. I held off on the zoodle faze for a very long time but they have withstood the test of time. As I started cycle syncing and being more aware of how gluten affected my gut, I decided to buy some zucchini. This dish is delicious and healthy! The zoodles keep it light and the chicken is gluten free but the piccata keeps it tasty.
